I’ll try my best to bring something new to the community.
Speaking about game programming community, Vietnam currently has none.
Me and some pals above are building one to encourage and help game developers program their own games.
Relying on a top of technologies from outside for years has prevented us from inventing real tech.
We don’t have enough graphics programming expertise to compete with the world, while computer graphics (CG) serves many areas besides games, including movies (Visual effects - VFX), animation (2D/3D animated movies), etc.
I believe that making game programming more popular also bring more programmers to work in all kinds of technology development because a game needs graphics, audio, networking, …
It is certain that current generation of Vietnamese coders is also working on these areas, but there’s no inventions that you could share to community since most of the work belongs to outsourcing market. We are using our talents to do it for other countries.
That’s why I create GameDevSpot, trying to tell people that game programming is a serious work that you should consider. People who making games like GameDev.net so much (biggest game development community) but the reason we don’t have something like that is because we don’t actually want to program our own game.
Me and some friends I know across the country are doing it to set an example for community to follow, even if our games wouldn’t become popular, we’re enough proud of having overcome a challenge that we set for ourselves, accumulating precious and highly complex knowledge that could pass to later generations via education and sharing, and the list of values goes on …
